Confidentiality

As a psychologist I must respect the privacy of my clients and am bound to keep what you discuss confidential unless you give written permission. I usually ask you for permission to advise your GP on your progress but you may refuse. If the issue of privacy and confidentiality worries you, be sure to ask me about it during our first meeting.

In my practice I use a strictly secure electronic filing system to document your personal information and the progress of your treatment. You have the right to inspect your own files or to copy (parts of) your files. My personal notes are not part of the file. Your file will be kept after your treatment according to the lawful retention period (15 years) and will be destroyed after that period. You can ask to have your file destroyed earlier if you wish but you will have to make a formal request in writing.
